Michael Smith & Anne Hills

Tuesday, November 18, 6:30 p.m.

Michael Smith is a lyricist, composer, playwright, and performer. He has won four prestigious Jeff awards and is the 2010 recipient of the distinguished Hans Christian Andersen Award for his adaptation of The Snow Queen, for which he also wrote the musical score. His beloved song “The Dutchman,” a signature piece for the late Liam Clancy and Steve Goodman and recently recorded by Celtic Thunder, is considered a classic. Chicago magazine wrote of Michael, “One of the best songwriters in the English language . . . an enchanting and riveting performer.”

Tom Paxton says, “Anne Hills is such an exquisite singer that it’s understandable that people might be swept up in the pure beauty of her voice and thereby overlook her writing. That would be a mistake. For me, Anne’s writing, in songs like ‘Follow That Road’ and many others, is as direct, melodic and deep as any work being done today. She is quite simply one of my absolute favorite songwriters.”

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear these collaborators together. Onstage, they bring dynamic instrumental and harmonic dimensions to their co-written songs and favorites of their individual repertoires.
