Bald eagles are large, powerful, and majestic birds of prey. They migrate to the Alton area every winter to nest along the Mississippi River. These birds can usually be seen November through March throughout the confluence region and surrounding area. Grafton, Alton, Hardin and West Alton are a few locations where I have found that bald eagles are most prominent.

Many bald eagles return to the same nest year after year, which can get very large. They feed on fish and waterfowl but will eat almost anything, if they must. These creatures are fascinating and so intriguing to see in the wild, I have formed a passion with photographing these birds for that very reason. Their incredible hunting skills and swift maneuvers in the air puts any fight pilot to shame.

All of my eagle photos are from the Riverbend area, mostly up and down the berm, across the bridge at the Audubon preserve in West Alton and up and down the river road from Alton to Hardin.

Our Nation’s bird in its natural habitat is always an amazing sight to see, we are lucky to be able to experience such a vision.
