Willis C. Cushing Jr., 87, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Bethalto Care Center.
He was born on January 16, 1928 in Alton, Illinois, the son of Willis E. and Eleanor (Quade) Cushing.
He married Dolores Stade on December 2, 1949. She passed away in 2006
Willis served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He worked at Owens Illinois Glass as a machinist, he and his wife, were former owners and operators of the Bethalto Farm Fresh for 10 years. Later he worked in maintenance for Wood River Hospital for ten years. He attended Upper Alton Baptist Church. He enjoyed country and western music, visiting Branson and having breakfast with his two friends, Jack and Walley.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Scot & Geneva Cushing of Collinsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Patti & Glen Wilson of Bethalto; five grandchildren and their spouses, Craig Wilson & Calvin Soong both of Bethalto, Kellie & Chris Greer of Moro, Michael and Carrie Cushing of Troy, Gregory and Stephanie Cushing of Troy and Sarah Cushing of Bryant, AR and six great grandchildren, Christian, Andrew, Brynna, Natalie, Keylie and Keegan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Celebration of Life will be from 4 until funeral services at 7 pm Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto
Private burial will be Tuesday at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308.
