William “Wild Bill” E. Coates, 58, passed away at 9:07 am, Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.
He was born in Jerseyville, IL on November 9, 1956, the son of the late William and Sharon (Wahle) Coates.
William was a mechanic from Alton who could build or repair anything. He worked as mechanic for RTD in Springfield. He also served in the United States Marine Corp. William was a good friend who would help out anyone. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Andrew (Krista) Coates of Riverton, IL, Nicholas (Melissa) of Jacksonville, IL; one brother, Donald Smock of Godfrey; three sisters, Vicky Reed of Wilsonville, IL, Sherry (Jim) Rutledge of Brighton, Dana Smock-Fisher of Godfrey; and nine grandchildren, Paris Alayna, Bryson, Elexis, Nicholas, Noah, Nathanael, Summer, Nelius, and Nevan.
Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
