William Stamper

William Richard Stamper, 84, of Roxana, IL, died at 6:45 a.m. Tues. Oct. 7, 2014 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.

He was born Sept. 7, 1930 in Alton, IL to the late John William & Verna Mae (Winslade) Stamper. 

Mr. Stamper was a U.S. Air Force Korean war veteran and a member of the Alton VFW Post #1308 and Wood River Moose #1349.  After his military service, he worked for Laclede Steel, retiring in 1991 as an Oil Temp Furnace Operator, after 41 ½ years of service.

He is survived by: a daughter, Joyce (Randy) Brueggeman of East Alton, IL; a son Kenneth (Martha) Stamper of Roxana; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Stamper of Washington state; 6 grandchildren, Amy (Pat) Friedel, Chris (Houda) Stamper, Kyle (Emily) Brueggeman, Jared (Joy) Brueggeman, Thomas (Amber) Stamper and Jacob Stamper; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Louis Stamper of Alton, IL and Roy Robert Stamper of Augusta, GA.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Michael Stamper.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Noon, Saturday, Oct. 11 at Paynic Home for Funerals with Rev. Daryl Fansler officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Post 1308. 

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.
