William Lowell Dotson Sr., 75, died at 3:00 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2015 at his residence.He was born in Carrollton on July 21, 1939, and was the son of William O. and Vera (Simpson) Dotson.Bill was a heavy equipment operator for many years, working all over the country, particularly in Texas constructing roads, bridges and dams.  Locally, he worked in construction, building & remodeling homes, and assisted Heidi Miller in the construction of numerous elderly housing projects.  Later in life, he and his wife, Rosemary, managed Lazy Acres Campground in Litchfield.He married the former Rosemary (Smith) Chappell and she remained a loving companion and compassionate caregiver.Also surviving are his five children & their spouses, Terry Allen Dotson, and his companion, Tammy of Mesa, Az., William L. & Joyce Dotson Jr. of North Dakota, Carla & Brian Tyser of Springfield, Or., Stacy Lynn Yates of Jerseyville, and Kevin Dotson of Carrollton; a step son, Mike Chappell, and his companion, Lauren Broeker of Alton; numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; three sisters & brothers in law, Kay & Joe Thompson of Jerseyville, Alice Bock of Godfrey, DorothyAhring, and her companion, Larry Strickler of Perry, Mo., and Karen Blackorby of Jerseyville; and two brothers and a sister in law, Kenneth Blackorby of Jerseyville, and David & Zonya Blackorby of Jerseyville.He was preceded in death by his father, William Dotson; his mother & step father, Leon & Vera Blackorby; and two sisters, Linda Blackorby and Pamela Fenstermaker.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Rev. Joel Lohr will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military rites in honor of his service with the U.S. Air Force.Memorials may be given to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County or to the Activity Department of Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation.
