William Stogsdill

William Harold Stogsdill, Sr., 94, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.

Born on November 14, 1920 in Orchardville, IL, he was the son of Cecil and Daisy Stogsdill.

He met, then on August 31, 1940 in Hillsboro, MO,  married his love, the former Sarah F. Streich.  After beginning their life together, he enlisted in the army, where he received an honorable discharge for medical reasons.  He began his career as a machinist, and later opened "Stogsdill Watch and Clock Repair" in East Alton, which he owned and operated until age 90.  He created some clock tools for his business that are still used in the industry today.

Harold was a man of many talents.  He was involved with music ministry in his local church for many years, where he played the piano and guitar.  He was a collector of watches and knives as well.  One grandchild wrote that "everyone in heaven will know what time it is, and will always have a sharp knife."

Surviving are the couple's children, Janice Dickey, Bill (Phyllis) Stogsdill, John (Frankie) Stogsdill, Donna (Kenny) Ferry; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two brothers ; and a sister.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sarah, two brothers; and a sister.
