William H. Nesbit, 85, died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at his residence.
Born Dec. 5, 1928, in East St. Louis, the son of Samuel and Viola (Stennett) Nesbit.
He married Charlotte J. Smith on June 19, 1948, in Wood River. She died Oct. 21, 2010. He worked as a Millwright at Laclede Steel in Alton.
William was an Army veteran and a member of the Church of God of Prophecies in East Alton.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Kopsie of East Alton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William S. and Pamela Nesbit of Alton, and Robert A. Nesbit of Cottage Hills; five grandchildren, Chance Nesbit, Tammy Davis, Charlie Kopsie, Jamie Edler, and Dena Rhyne; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Douglas of Granite City ; one brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Loretta Nesbit of Smithton.
Preceded in death by parents; son-in-law, Richard Kopsie; three sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 30, at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, where funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, with Rev. James R. Hooker officiating. Burial: Wanda cemetery in South Roxana.
