William D. “Pete” Berry, 72, died at 6:37 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born December 20, 1942 in Carrollton, IL, he was the son of William C. and Hazel I. (Jones) Berry. Bill co-owned and operated A Kut Above and later worked for the Right Look, retiring after over 40 years as a barber. He loved fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, and H.O. Scale Hobby Railroading. On April 29, 1973 he married the former Barbara A. Chalk in Godfrey. She survives. Also surviving is a brother, Steven Berry (Cris) of Carrollton, two sisters, Patricia Shafer (Vern) of Carrollton, and Linda Horn of St. Ann, IL, and nieces and nephews, Steven Sumner (Nicki), Willie Sumner (Diana), Brooke Darr (Josh), Sara Saettle (Steve), Jennifer DeWitt (Justin), William Preston Stork (Laura), Susan E. Kern (Matthew), and Jennifer A. Drury (David), and great nieces and nephews, Kiley and Jack Sumner, Mallory and Harper Darr, Megan and Zach DeWitt, William Preston Stork Jr., and Hayley S. Kern. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor David Brown will officiate. Burial will be private.
