Walter "Bud" L. Wittman, 89, passed away at 7:35 pm on Monday, November 8, 2010 at his home.

He was born on the family farm on May 1, 1921, in Godfrey, IL, the son of Peter J. and Kunigunda (Wendle) Wittman.

He married Ann Campagna on October 14, 1950 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. She survives.

He was a veteran in the US Army, serving from 1942 to 1946. He worked in Steel Fabrication at Federal Steel and Design retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Steve Stricker of Olathe, KS; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom Wittman of Jerseyville and Doug & Wendi Wittman of Godfrey; six grandchildren, Corby (Jim) Suptic of Kansas City, MO, Tyler (Melissa) Whitworth of Garden City, Missouri, Allen Wittman of San Francisco, Ryan Wittman of Bethalto, Bonita Stevey of Godfrey, and Joe (Tiffany) Wittman of Gillespie; several great grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Norb & Marti Wittman of Alton; a sister, Catherine Gray of Godfrey and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Raymond, Joseph, Carl, Leo and Elmer (Bill) Wittman.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday November 10, 2010 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday November 11, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.

Memorials may be made to Masses or St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund.
