Vivian Brown

Vivian M. Brown, 89, passed away at 9:21 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 18, 1926 in Wood River, Ill., she was a daughter of Harley and Ruth (Reed) Hensley.

She married John W. Brown, Sr. in Alton in 1956.  He passed away Nov. 9, 1995.

Vivian worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years at Wood River Township and Alton Memorial Hospitals.  She loved watching wildlife and birds in particular.  She also enjoyed ceramics, painting, and rose gardening.  She was a member of Oakhill Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Carol (Bobby) Johns of Tipton, Mo., Penny (Butch) McCormick of Alton, and Sandra (Rick) Gallson of Chillicothe, Mo.; a son, John W. (Susan) Brown II of Alton; 13 grandchildren, John, Dustin, Derrick, Wendi, Nicholas, Tim, Amanda, Jeremy, Paula, Sonja, Rodney, Ruth and David; 27 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, David L. Manley and Donnie Manley; a sister, Lois Young; and a brother, Donald “Bud” Hensley.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11.  Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery.
