Virgil F. Balster, 89, passed away 10:01 a.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Jerseyville Manor .
Born in wood River on December 22, 1925, he was the son of George and Jessie (Harmoning) Balster.
A World War II navy veteran, he had been a machinist for AMOCO for 35 years before retiring in 1981.
In July of 1978 in Rosewood Heights, he married the former Roberta L. "Peggy" Patterson. She died February 7, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Kevin Balster of East Alton; four step-sons, Randy Vogt of Salem, Louis Vogt and Robert Vogt both of Florida, Tom Vogt of White Hall; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Balster of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Carroll Balster.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
