Verna Schwear

Dateline: BethaltoVerna E. Schwear, age 96, of Bethalto, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015, at Bethalto Care Center.She was born March 24, 1919, in Granite City, IL, the daughter of George W. and Pauline (Buehrer) True. She married Leroy W. Schwear on June 26, 1937, in Granite City and he preceded her in death on May 19, 1995.Mrs. Schwear was active in several area clubs, including the Bethalto Senior Citizen’s Center, the Roxana Senior Citizen’s Center. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Verna loved quilting and enjoyed playing cards with her friends.She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Ronald Howes of Bethalto, and Janet Patterson of Edwardsville, IL; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and JoEllen Patterson, Kraig and Becky Patterson, Terri and Alan Mettler, Scott and Kristi Howes, and Dawn and Glen Bertels; and ten great-grandchildren, Ben and Andrew Patterson, Joey, Jared, and Jacob Mettler, Caleb and Isaac Bertels, Eric Howes, and Kaitlyn and Alissa Patterson.In addition to her husband, Leroy; she is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wilbert True; and a sister, Emma Wisnasky; and a son-in-law, Charles Patterson.Visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2015, from 4 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.Additional visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015, from 9:00 am until the time of funeral service at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastors Kale Hanson and Willard Meyer officiating.Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to a charity of one’s choice.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com .
