Dateline: Wood River Thomas E. Newby, 75, passed away at 6:38 pm Monday, December 21, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on April 11, 1940 in Plainview, IL, the son of Albert L. and Vida R. (Greenwalt) Newby. He married Fayetta L. Ross on January 28, 1960 in Carlinville. She preceded him in death. Thomas was a machinist/furnace operator at Olin Corporation for 28 years. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Larry and Pamela Newby of South Roxana, Ronald and Sherry Newby of Wood River and Rachel and Buddy McGee of Wood River; sixteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren and a sister, Darlene Brady of Divernon, Illinois and nieces and nephews In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Thomas Dean Newby and infant granddaughter, Mary Grace, two brothers, an infant brother, Louis Newby and Edward Newby and a sister, Alene Mohart. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, December 28, 2015 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Pat Heston officiating. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
