Stanley Bailey

Stanley R. Bailey, 73, died at 3:20 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at Robings Manor in Brighton. Born January 22, 1942 in Alton, he was the son of Forrest “Hap” and Virginia M. (Wallace) Bailey. Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was an avid Cardinal baseball fan. He retired from Teamsters Local 525 after 38 years of service. On April 3, 1964 he married Janet M. Mathis in Alton. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, JaNeen Bailey of Godfrey, two sons, Doug Bailey (Monique) of Rosewood Heights, and Brian Bailey of East Alton, two grandchildren, Brittany and Brandon Bailey, and three step grandchildren, Afttan, Jordan and Sierra. Also surviving are two brothers, Dale Bailey (Nancy) of Godfrey, and Bob Bailey (Janet) of Peoria, AZ, a sister-in-law, Suzie Mathis of Plainfield, IN. He was loved by many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Arlene Bailey, a daughter-in-law, Stacey Bailey, brother-in-law, Dale Mathis, mother-in-law, Helen Spittler, step father-in-law, Jim Spittler, and a nephew, Mike Bailey. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Reverend Carl Cook will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
