Shirley Ann Ukena, 87, of Edwardsville, IL, died at 9:10 p.m. Mon. Mar. 16, 2015 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL surrounded by her family.
She was born Mar. 9, 1928 in East Alton, IL to the late Earl & Mildred (Burden) Miessner.
Shirley was a 1946 graduate of Wood River High School and was a champion speller and avid reader. She enjoyed her family, homemaking, travel, puzzles and western movies.
On Mar. 3, 1973, she and Kenneth M. Ukena were married in Edwardsville, IL. He survives in Edwardsville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: daughter, Marcy & husband Steve Force of Mascoutah, IL, sons, Timothy Wiemers & wife Patty of Edwardsville, Bob Wiemers of Roxana, step-daughters, Ronnies Seals & husband Dennis of Glen Carbon, IL and Renee Ukena of Edwardsville, IL 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Virgil Ukena & wife Nancy of Spring Valley, IL and sisters-in-law, Novella Brockman of Edwardsville and Loretta Carmody of Carrollton, IL.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death: by a sister, Freddie Mae Dawson & husband Roy, brothers-in-law, Vernon Ukena & wife Zelda, Walter Brockman and Jess Carmody, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Tague & husband Sonny and Coletta Dalton & husband Jack.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thurs. Mar. 19, 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Committal services will be at 10:00 a.m. Fri. Mar. 20, 2015 at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
