Shirley Laubscher

Shirley A. Laubscher, 86, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Born March 5, 1930 in Alton, she was the daughter of Harry Charles Everett and Pearl Hazel (Moore) Ruedin. Mrs. Laubscher graduated as valedictorian of her class. She was a secretary for the American Cancer Society and retired as secretary of Elm Street Presbyterian Church on December 31, 1989. She was very proud of working for the American Cancer Society and she loved to joke around. On June 21, 1957 she married Walter Alexander Laubscher in Alton. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1997. Surviving is a daughter, Pamela Laubscher of Brighton, and a son, Andrew “Drew” Laubscher of Alton, three grandchildren, Lionel Alexander Rijo, Alexander Raymond Laubscher, and Damon James Eich, two great grandchildren, one brother, Jerry Lee Ruedin of North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Eugene Ruedin and a sister, Carol Sue Ruedin-Wagenblast. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor David Weimer will officiate.
