Scott A. Means, 55, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his mother’s home. Born March 8, 1960 in Alton, he was the son of Shirley (Bailey) Means of East Alton and the late Lourn Thomas Means Jr. Scott was a self-employed carpenter. He was baptized at St. John’s United Evangelical Church of Christ. He was a great builder and inventor. He liked to tinker and being outside trapping and gardening. Along with his mother he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Mark Thomas and Evelyn Means of Conroy, Iowa, a step-sister, Carol Osburn, a step nephew, Nicholas Osburn (Stephanie), and close friends for many years, Bob Eades, Dave Gray, and Marc Neal. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Maurice Means. A memorial visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Julie Gvillo C.R.E. will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church in Wood River or the American Cancer Society.
