Sara (Grossenbacher)

Edwardsville |

Sara Glen Gusewelle (Grossenbacher), age 80, returned peacefully to her heavenly home on January 10, 2016. Sara was born February 12, 1935 to the late Henry Ernst Grossenbacher and Mary Beth (Donoho) Grossenbacher, a local business man and a homemaker respectively in Overland, MO. She was educated in the Ritenour Public Schools. Sara was immersed in the Overland UCC church from an early age including Job’s Daughters International. As a young adult Sara worked for the family business, Gross-Aire Heating-Cooling Company until marrying Delmar W. Gusewelle of East Alton, IL in 1962 and moving with Delmar to Edwardsville, IL. to establish their family home. Sara was a loving wife who especially enjoyed nurturing and raising her son Glen. As a mother and gifted organizer and planner, she was an active home-room mother and cub scout leader. She was a longstanding member and volunteer coordinator for Eden Church. Sara owned and operated the Mode O’Day Dress Shop in Edwardsville for a number of years. She spent many years involved with the Women of the Moose at the Granite City Lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose where she served as an appointed officer at many levels within the organization. She was an avid cross stitcher of quilt tops, collector of Precious Moments and spent many days cheering on the Cardinals baseball team. Sara was an encourager at heart. She was vibrant and passionate and always had time to bake a batch of goodies for events. Sara and Delmar enjoyed square dancing and ball room dancing with friends for many years. Sara adored her large and loving family of four sisters that were all close in age. Through the years she took great joy in her family. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Sara is survived by Delmar, her husband of 53 years; son Glen of Overland Park, KS, grandson Grant Gusewelle of Overland Park, KS, her sisters Billie Beth Baldwin of Creve Coeur, MO, Margaret Ellen Jolly of Federal Way, WA, MaryAnne and Robert Becker of O’Fallon, MO and Brother in-laws Joseph MacDoniels of Washington, DC and Donald Gusewelle of Gillespie, IL, and Joan Louise Gusewelle of Wood River, IL; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
