Wood River |

Wood River—Rosemary McCartney, 94, passed away at 8:38 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at home surrounded by family.

She was born June 30, 1922 in Fidelity, IL, the daughter of the late Fred Albert and Anna (Crocker) Albert.

Rosemary married Tony H. McCartney on March 23, 1940 in St. Charles, MO.  He preceded her in death in 2005.

After working in retail most of her adult life, she retired from SavMart in 1976.  She was very active in her church and served her community as Mother’s Club President in East Alton and as a volunteer at the Wood River Hospital Auxiliary.  Rosemary enjoyed traveling, cooking and sewing.  Her true joy was her family.

She is survived by three children, Dr. Roger (Jean) McCartney of Florida, Ronald (Sandy) McCartney of Wood River, and Patricia (Dennis) Staley of Glen Carbon.  She was also blessed with four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Emily McKinney and Mable Miller.

There will be no visitation.  Private graveside services will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the APA in Granite City, a no-kill shelter.

Special thanks to Dr. John Wuellner for his care and concern and to BJC Hospice for their guidance and support.
