Ronald Literski
East Saint Louis |
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Dean Literski, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Born on November 28, 1944, in East St. Louis, Ill., Ronald was the son of Gordon and Vurla (née Schmahl) Literski. He spent his formative years in Lebanon, Ill., under the loving care of his grandparents, John and Bertha Schmahl, and his aunt Audrey Schmahl. Ron completed his education in Lebanon, graduating with the class of 1962. He furthered his studies at McKendree College before answering the call to serve his country.
In 1965, Ronald was drafted into the U.S. Army where he spent his time in Germany working on tanks. In 1967, he was honorably discharged and upon his return, embarked on a successful career with Southwestern Bell Telephone. After decades of service, he retired in 2002, ready to immerse himself in the passions and joys of retirement.
In 1968, Ron married Gayle (née Sibert), with whom he had three children: Craig Literski, Brett Literski, and Melissa (Chad) Allen.
On November 1, 1996, Ronald married, Barb (née Martin) Literski. Together they have shared years filled with love, laughter, and companionship. They created many memories together over the years that included trips to Branson where they enjoyed going to Silver Dollar City, listening to Homestead Pickers, finding local restaurants to eat at, and enjoying the sights and sounds of all that Branson had to offer.
Ronald’s love of cars was known to all who knew him. A true car enthusiast, he found joy and purpose in working on cars alongside his son, Craig.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Vurla Literski, and his brothers, Marlin and Randy Literski. Ronald is survived by his wife, Barb, his brother, Douglas, his children, Craig Literski, Brett Literski, and Melissa (Chad) Allen. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren, Mariah (Andrew) Leigh, Layla Literski, Carly Literski, Carson Literski, Madelyn Allen, Caitlyn Allen, and his great grandchild Adeline Leigh.
Ronald’s life was a testament to the power of family, the importance of service, and the joy of following one’s passions.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we are eternally grateful for the time we had with him. His memory will live on in the stories and hearts of those who knew him.
