Ronald Snyder

Ronald Leo Snyder, 78, died at 7:28 p.m., Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Carlinville Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Carlinville. He was born on June 30, 1937 in Wessington, South Dakota, one of three sons born to the late Leo J. & Goldie V. (Salmons) Snyder. Ronald was raised in the East Alton and Rosewood Heights area and went on to serve with the United States Navy where he was stationed on the USS Virgo and the USS Washburn in California. After his time in the service, he returned to Cottage Hills where he lived for a number of years, eventually buying a home in Wood River. Later in life, he spent time living in both Florida and Louisiana, ultimately he moved to Jerseyville where he remained for nearly seven years before recently moving Carrollton, where he found a dear friend and devoted caretaker, Ethel Honey. Ronald was a 3rd Degree member of the Moose Lodge, a skilled handyman and retired Maintenance Supervisor. Surviving are a son, Ronald Wayne “Pete” Snyder of St. Paul, MN; a brother, Rojer Dale Snyder of Englewood, FL;  two nephews, Jeff and Greg Snyder; as well as friends, Ethel Honey and Richard Wense Sr.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta Lee Lang and a brother, Jim Snyder. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville where the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct full military honors. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
