Roger Hugh Blaske, 70, passed away at 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at his residence.
Roger was born in Alton, IL. on March 15, 1943 the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Hellrung) Blaske.
Roger married Margaret in Cleveland, Ohio on January 7, 1967. She preceded him in death on March 26, 2013.
Roger always worked in the river industry, starting as a deckhand then a towboat pilot. Roger then owned and operated Blaske Marine in Alton for over 35 years. He enjoyed going to their cabin in upper Michigan, fishing, and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Roger is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Rebekka and Keith Valentino of New Lenox, IL, Elizabeth and Thomas DeGonia of Olney, MD; one son, Michael Blaske and fiancé Stacy Stavrakis of Lockport, IL; six grandchildren, Isabella and Breydon Valentino, Olivia and Jack DeGonia, Nikolas and Christian Blaske; four brothers, Steve and Donna Blaske, Stan Blaske, Mark Blaske, Jeff and Esther Blaske; and one sister, Marilyn Blaske.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4pm until time of service at 6 pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL with Reverend David Crowley officiating.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.
