Robert Schrimpf

Robert W. (Bob) Schrimpf, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton.

He was born on November 8, 1924, in Alton and was the son of the late Emil William and Elsie Marie (Scholz) Schrimpf.  He married the love of his life, Bette A Hanke, on December 27, 1945 in Alton and she survives.

He had three children, seven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

The survivors include two sons and their wives, Bill (Vicki) Schrimpf of Edwardsville, Mark (Rita) Schrimpf of Krum, Texas: a daughter and her husband Anne (Wiley) Davis of Godfrey.  A brother Donald (Char) of Godfrey.  Grandchildren are Susan (Bryan) Hatfield, Matt (Jenn) Schrimpf, John Schrimpf, Michelle (John) Hyndman, Katherine (Chris) Phillips, Andrew (Sara) Davis and John Davis.  Great grandchildren Nicholas and Brianna Hatfield, Alexis, Braden and Victoria Schrimpf, Jake, Shane, and Victoria Hyndman, Bryce, Caleb and Grant Phillips, and Abigail, Lucas and Nicholas Davis.

Bob was the owner and president of Piasa Motor Fuels from 1946 to 1988.  He built the business into one of the top Conoco distributors in the country in the 1980’s. In 1976 he purchased a pipeline terminal in Hartford.

Bob served in the Navy on the USS Major from 1943-1946.  He was a long time member of Cherry Street Baptist Church, Charter member of Faith Fellowship, President of Alton Chamber of Commerce, President of Illinois Petroleum Marketers Assoc, Regional VP of the National Oil Jobbers Assoc, Member of the board of the Bi State Development Corporation, President of the Lewis & Clark Community College Foundation, VP of the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Board of Millers Mutual Insurance Association.

Not only was Bob a very devoted and driven business man, he also was a great family man.  He especially enjoyed taking boat trips with his family on the river.

In addition to his parents, one sister Betty Evans, and one brother Edward, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Faith Fellowship Church, 4719 Seminary Road, Alton.

Visitation will continue Saturday, March 16, 20013 from 9 am till time of service at 10am, at Faith Fellowship Church, Pastor Daymond Talkington will officiate.  Burial will be at Valhalla Cemetery in Godfrey.
