Robert W. Bixen, 48, passed away at 11:10 pm Friday June 20, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Alton on July 24, 1965 the son of Harold & Mary (Aljets) Bixen of Dorsey.

He married Kara Bartels on March 4, 1989 at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton and they have celebrated 25 years of marriage.  She survives.

Robert was a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Diagraph - An ITW Company for 13 years.  He was a machine designer who has been awarded several patents.  He was a volunteer fireman for the Dorsey Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years.  He was a life-long member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.  Robert was a “do-it-yourself” type of person.  He enjoyed spending time with his family by playing games, riding bikes, going on vacations and working on computers with his son.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Lukas Bixen at home;  his parents, Harold and Mary Bixen of  Dorsey; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and David Francis of Godfrey; a brother,  John Bixen of Alton;  his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilbert and Emma Jean Bartels of rural Alton; brother-in-law and spouse, Keith and Annette Bartels of Bethalto; sister-in-law and spouse, Kathryn and Timothy Ragsdale of Brighton; and his nieces and nephews, Christopher Bartels, Jacob Bartels, Daniel Bartels,  Noah Ragsdale, Emmaly Ragsdale, Nicholas Ragsdale, Brittany Martin and Avrie Ginn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward J. and Elizabeth Aljets and Alvin C. and Alma Bixen.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday June 23, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Tuesday June 24, 2014 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey with Pastor George Gude officiating.

Burial will follow at Emmaus Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his son, Lukas.
