Robert Chaney

Wood River |

Robert Ray Chaney, 78, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center of Alton.

Born on January 22, 1937 in Science Hill, KY, he was the son of William and Alice (Bloomer) Chaney.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a millwright at Granite City Steel before retiring. He was a member of the South Roxana American Legion and Wood River Moose Lodge #1349.

On May 5, 1979 in Wood River, he married the former Mary Joan Corbine.  She died September 27, 2013.

Surviving are two sons, Troy (Sherry) Chaney of Florida, Frank (Mary) Haynes of Bethalto; two daughters, Monica Haynes, Mona (Donald) Beckman all of Wood River; four grandchildren, Michael Haynes, Diana Haynes, Heather (Jeff) O'Toole, Chantelle (Gilbert) Parker-Travino; two great grandchildren; a brother John (Judy) Chaney of Prairietown; and a sister, Sharon (Norman) Stearns of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Tracie Campbell; granddaughter, Jasmine Campbell; and sister, Linda Emory.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors by Bunker Hill American Legion and U.S. Navy.

Memorials may be made to the Alton 5 A's or Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
