Robert (Jack) H. Kornegay, age 89, passed away at 12:12 pm, Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton with his family by his side.He was born on May 30, 1925 in Beaumont, TX, the son of the late Marvin and Grace (Bowers) Kornegay.Robert married Elizabeth Marshall on September 6, 1952 in Paducah, KY and she survives.He served his country in the Army Air Force as a flight officer during WWII and then worked as an Engineer for the Shell Refinery for over 30 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Alton where he was an active member and a deacon. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and traveling across much of America. He enjoyed wintering in Florida and spending time with his family. Robert is survived by his wife, and two children; Ann and her spouse Charles Shepler of McKinney, TX, and Robert Kornegay of St. Charles, MO, four grandchildren; C.J. and his spouse Jessica Shepler of Mansfield, TX, Joy and her spouse Klaus Krogsgaard of Lyngby, Denmark, Kristin Kornegay and Melissa Kornegay of St. Charles, MO, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Anna Lee Hanson and Helen Barfield, and one brother; Marvin Kornegay.Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of funeral services at 1:00 pm Friday, August 8, 2014 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Rev Andre` Dobson officiating.Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s House in Carmi or Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
