Robert "Bob" "Chief" B. Stahlschmidt, age 80, passed away 7:09 pm Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born August 2, 1929 in West Alton, MO. on the farm, to Robert J. & Marie (Bextermueller) Stahlschmidt.

He married Sarah "Sally" (Decker) on April 25, 1959, in Jerseyville at the St. Francis Catholic Church.

Bob was a farmer all his life in West Alton, MO. He served in the United States Navy, was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Alton, MO, Alton Eagles lodge # 254, Disabled Veterans Association. He loved to play card games, pool, garden, farm and spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by five children and their spouses, Pam & Kevin Bailey of Belle Plain, MN, Kathy Scott of Portage Des Sioux, MO, Dale & Nancy Stahlschmidt of Fosterburg, Vicki & Jim Mayer of Ballwin, MO and Stephanie Stahlschmidt of Alton; seven grandchildren, Tom Bailey, Theresa Bailey, Sarah Scott, Katelynn "Katie" Scott, Angela Mayer, Amanda Mayer and Valerie Garrison; one great granddaughter, Nina Scott and seven brothers and sisters and their spouses, Geraldine "Dub" Boschert of St. Charles, MO, Larry & Earlene Stahlschmidt of St. Charles, MO, Marie Needham of Knoxville, TN, Anita Stimac of Florissant, MO, Janet & Frank Penn of Florissant, MO, Jerry Stahlschmidt and fiancé Mary Lou Wineager of Alton and Frank & Sandy Stahlschmidt of Florissant, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Rosemary Mabrey, Donald Stahlschmidt, Tony Stahlschmidt, Sylvia "Sis" Preston, Joan Fields, Jimmy Stahlschmidt and one son-in-law, Richard "Rick" Scott.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home, in Alton.

Funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Alton, MO. with Fr. Robert Banken officiating.

Pre his wishes cremation rites will be accorded after the funeral mass.

Memorials may be given to St. Anthony's Hospice and or Make a Wish Foundation.
