Richard Thomas Watts, 72, died unexpectedly at 11:11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL. Born November 23, 1941 in St. Louis, MO, he was the son of Glennon and Margaret (Hof) Watts. Mr. Watts was a longtime resident of Alton.

He was active in the community for many years serving as City Alderman, Alton Exposition Chairman, Exchange Club and was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He retired as general manager from Highland Sanders Corp. of Mobile, AL.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene (St. Peters) Watts, six children and spouses, Gregg and Wendy Watts, Brian and Justine Watts, Ken Watts, Julie and Jim Kercher, Katie and Scott Snider, and Glenn and Daomanivone Watts, 19 grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, and Matthew Watts, Nate, Declan and Zoe Watts, Tommy Watts, Justin, Jack, Joel, Katie and Grace Kercher, Emma, Claire, Lila, and Greyson Snider, Tony (Stephanie), Nicole Maharath and Brandon Watts. Also surviving is a sister, Margie Watts Mullarkey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Glennon Watts.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Monsignor Kenneth Steffen will officiate.

Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
