Richard “Rich” G. Hellinger, 75, passed away at 1:10 pm Monday, June 23, 2014 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra with his family by his side.
He was born in Edwardsville, IL on August, 23, 1938, the son of Virgil R. and Helen (Volz) Hellinger.
He married Donna J. Brakhane on October 6, 1963 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hamel. She survives.
Rich served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a systems analyst at McDonnell Douglas for 34 years, until his retirement, June 1, 1995. He also was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hamel, where he held several church offices, was a Boy Scout leader and was involved with the Men’s Club in Hamel. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, fix it projects, making apple butter and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Stephanie Hellinger of Staunton and Rodney and Beth Hellinger of Worden and two grandchildren, Chloe K. and Riley F. Hellinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Nicholas Joseph Hellinger, a brother, Virgil H. Hellinger and a sister, Peggy Fitch.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hamel.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the church with Pastor Benjamin Ball.
Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Bethalto
Memorials may be made to St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hamel Renovation Fund.
