Richard Dunsing

Richard Dale Dunsing, 71, died at 5:55 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at his residence with his family at his side.He was born in Jerseyville on July 27, 1944 one of four children born to Everett & Mabel E. (Reno) Dunsing.Richard attended Jerseyville schools, and began working at the Grafton Rock Quarry at a very young age.   He then began lifelong career as a painter, first at Principia College in Elsah for ten years, and then with the Winchester division of Olin Corp. in East Alton, where he was known as "Wild Man",  for 26 years, retiring in 2005.He also owned and operated the Used Not Abused Shop in Jerseyville, alongside his wife for a number of years, and enjoyed evenings at the Patterson Opry House, traveling, being a solid family man as well as a good neighbor.   Most will remember him for his elaborate Christmas light display at their home on Lincoln Street, and the family is going to have a display one more year in his honor.He married the former Una DeUel, his soulmate for the last 48 years, on Jan. 12, 1973 at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville.Surviving are his wife, Una Dunsing of Jerseyville; one son, Robert Dunsing of Water Valley, Ms.; two grandchildren, Shawn Dunsing & AshlynnDunsing of Water Valley, Ms.; a sister & brother in law, Shirley & George Scott of Jerseyville; a sister in law, Naomi Dunsing of Jerseyville; a brother in law & sister in law, Ed & Mary DeUel of Jerseyville; and a  sister in law, Ella Gross of Texas.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar "Butch" Dunsing & Edward "Bosco" Dunsing; his father in law & mother in law, Earle & Leona DeUel; and a sister in law, Myrna (DeUel) Johnson.Memorial visitation will be from 4 p.m. Saturday until time of a short service of remembrance at 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate.Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville at a later date.Memorials may be given to the Charity Christian Center in Jerseyville.
