Reverend Carl J. Cook, 77, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at his home in Alton. Born August 14, 1938 in Harrisburg, IL, he was the son of Lamon and Eva (Dearing) Cook. He became an ordained minister in 1961 and founded the North Alton General Baptist Church. He continued his ministry at New Life Fellowship until the present. On August 30, 1956 he married the former Barbara A. Shewmaker in East Alton. She survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Jan Cook of Brighton and Rodney and Gretchen Cook of Godfrey. Four grandchildren, Sarah Geske (John) of Brighton, Meghan Markle of Godfrey, Hannah Cook of Godfrey, and Jordan Cook of Fayetteville, Arkansas, three great grandchildren, Dean and Grant Geske and Liam Medlock. One brother, Donald Cook of Harrisburg, IL, and one sister, Bonnie Kerr of Harrisburg, IL. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Bob Cook and a sister, LaWanda McDaniel. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home with burial to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Good Hope Cemetery in Karbers Ridge, IL.
