Rev. Carl E. Houston

Rev. Carl E. Houston went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 8, 2014.

  He was born Sept. 19, 1932 in Bertand, Mo.

  Rev. Houston is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce (McGlasson) Houston; his sister, Dorothy Knight of Jerseyville; son Don Houston of Carlyle; daughters Carla (Ken) Hedger of Alhambra and Carol-Ann (Randy) Tucker of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Don A. (Angela) Houston, Don E. Houston, Anna Houston, Bree-Ann (Nic) Smith, Jason (Mary) Tucker, Autumn (Thomas) Martinage, and Michael (Anna) Tucker; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews

  He was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Dolly Houston; brothers Alfred, Albert, and Verlin; and two grandchildren, Robert L. Dale III and Amber (Sunshine) Tucker.

  He served proudly in the US Army during the Korean War.  Shortly after the war he gave his heart and life to Jesus and began preaching.  He pastored churches in Bunker Hill and Gillespie.  He also evangelized at many other churches.  He was known for his sense of humor and gentle spirit.  He worked for many years at Hoeffken Brothers Concrete, then at K-Mart managing their building supply department.  He drove a truck for Hedger and Sons Metal Co., retiring from there.  He was also owner of Gabriel’s Christian Book Store.

  Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton, with the Rev. Jason Pierce presiding.  

  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Assembly of God’s mission program.
