Pearl Elizabeth Gardner, age 91, passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday,, January 31, 2016, at Rock Ridge Residential Care in Shellsburg, Iowa.
Born October 24, 1924 in Chester County, Tenn, she was one of nine children born to the late Jesse and Margaret (Jones) Mount.
She married Vernon Dwayne Gardner on April 13, 1946 in Tupelo, Miss. After 52 years of marriage, Vernon passed away February 22, 1998.
Pearl and Vernon lived in Harford for many years. She opened a beauty shop and although the work was hard, she loved it and enjoyed her time with faithful customers throughout the years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartford and also of The American Legion and VFW Auxiliary’s.
Her favorite color was blue. Not only could she fix hair but another talent was cooking and she loved it. Some of her favorite memories was cooking, especial for her family and her many friends.
As time went by, it was better for Pearl to be closer to her family so that they could better care for her needs. She left Hartford and continued another path in her life.
She and Vernon were blessed with two sons, Larry D Gardner of Elkhorn, NE, and Jerry D Gardner of Livonia, MI; five grandchildren, Todd and Sarah Gardner of Bloominton, Jennifer and Heath Kilpatrick of Shellsburg, IA, Jeremiah Gardner, Halle Gardner and Sara Gardner all of Livonia MI; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlin, Nick, Ella and Will.
Besides Vernon and her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her eight siblings, four sisters and four brothers.
A celebration of Pearls life will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the chapel at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto where services will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Ballard officiating.
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Hartford.
