Paul Kelly

Bethalto |

Paul Kelly died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton with his family by his side.

He was born on April 22, 1923 to C.G. and Pearl (Burcham) Kelly in Collinsville, IL

On July 28, 1942 he married Isabelle Langwisch at St. Boniface Church in Edwardsville.  They were married for 70 ½ years when she preceded him in death in January 2013.

During their years together, Paul and Isabelle traveled across the United States, Canada and Mexico.  They loved dancing, especially square dancing.  They loved working outside, playing cards and fishing trips to Minnesota.  True fans of country music they took numerous trips to Branson and Nashville.  Paul loved to play his guitar with his friends.  A cookout zealot, he hosted many cookouts and swim parties for his family and friends.

He loved building things and built five houses, including the home he and Isabelle lived in for 60 years.

Paul was a foreman and a machine adjuster in the Metallic Packing Department at Olin Winchester.  He retired after 36 years of service in 1980.  His best friend nicknamed him “the mechanic” because of his ability to fix almost anything.

Paul was a long time member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto.  He was very grateful for their in-home ministering and visits during his declining years.

He has gone but his many stories and love will survive.  He will be missed.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Hunt Jr. of Bethalto; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Kelly of Bethalto; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Charles Hunt III and Susan Hill of Collinsville; a granddaughter, Paula Webster and Mark Wilson of Bethalto; four great grandsons, Colton, Corey and Connor Hunt and Cole Wilson; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Renz of Carlinville, Lela Kelly of Bethalto and Gloria Kelly of Yuma, AZ.

In addition to his wife and parents, Paul was preceded in death by his beloved son, Dennis Kelly, a sister, Mary (Madge) Turnbeaugh, two brothers, Eugene Kelly and Robert Kelly.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 am Friday, July 10, 2015 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Tom Liebler officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
