Paul “Chris” Johnson, 85, died February 19, 2015 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home. He was born February 18, 1930 in Hartford, Illinois, the son of the late Mike and Connie (Renfrow) Johnson. Chris graduated from East-Alton Wood River High School in 1947, and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War, in the artillery division, receiving the Korean service medal with two bronze medals and other numerous awards. He worked in the banking business for 30 years, and then for the IAC Group based in Kansas City until he retired in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary A. (Mathias) Johnson, two daughters and their spouses, Paula and Ralph Glassbrenner, Gigi and Rich Matheny, five grandchildren, Sarah Glassbrenner and her fiancée, Jim Owens, David Glassbrenner, Michael Glassbrenner, Kelsie Rook and Natalie Matheny, his sister Athana Tomlanovich, and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Amelia Franklin and Georgia Broderick and a brother, Jimmy Johnson. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be private with full military honors. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
