Neal Sheppard

Neal V. Sheppard, 99, passed away at 12:50 pm Friday, August 29, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital, while under the care of BJC Hospice.

He was born July 17, 1915 in Nebo, IL, the son of the late Stephen Andrew and Lily B. (Wilson) Sheppard.

He married Gertrude L. Wiegand August 5, 1939 for 73 years.  She passed away June 19, 2013.

Neal graduated from Nebo High School in 1934.  He then served in the U.S. Navy for four years.  He became an electrician and joined Local Union 649 and was president for one term.  He retired in 1976.  On the side he raised and showed Polled Herford cattle, Quarter Horses and was engaged in farming.  He also sold and repaired horse trailers.  He was a long time member of the Illinois Boots and Saddle Club.

He is survived by five children and their spouses, Barb Henke, Michael and Connie Sheppard, Rhonda Sheppard and Larry Ceppenati all of Bethalto and Robert and Carol Sheppard of Plantation, FL; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Sheppard; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Rob (Tracy) Henke, Matthew (Tatjana) Sheppard, Elizabeth (Darren) Dase, Kimberly Sheppard, Steven (Kimett) Sheppard, Kelley Acker, Tracey Acker, Adam (Amanda) Sheppard, Michele (Josh) Mock and Amy Nolte, Keith (Ashley) Sheppard; twelve great grandchildren, Sydney and Sarah Henke, Dakota and Hunter Nolte, Tommy Pohlman, David and James Sheppard, Colin, Marshall and Jackson Dase,  Brayden Sheppard and Corbin Sheppard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Diana, a son, James and a great granddaughter, Alexandria Henke.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Charles West officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
