Michael Joe “Mike” Trgovich

Michael Joe “Mike” Trgovich, 72, formerly of Wood River, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Alhambra Care Center.
Born May 9, 1941 in Granite City, he was preceded in death by his parents Steve “Blackie” and Clara (Zellen) Trgovich, as well as a brother, Steven Trgovich, who died in infancy.
He married Judith A. Taynor on May 26, 1962 in Madison County Illinois. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Michael (Terrie) Trgovich of Wood River; two daughters, Molly (Daniel) Whitsell of Lebanon, Ohio and Jennifer (Scott) Wallace of Moro; his 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Kathleen (James) Bledsoe of Granite City, Donna (Thomas) Jenkins of Troy, and Susan (Steve) Willaredt of Granite City and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was employed with Commonwealth steel, then was employed with Amoco Oil in Wood River, where, in addition to his usual duties, he was a member of the volunteer fire department within the refinery. He retired from Amoco upon their closing. In his retirement years he worked for Safety Partners as a consultant.
Mike was raised in Granite City, Graduated from Granite City High School and attended SIU-Carbondale. He was a wrestler in high school and college. He carried love for the sport his entire life and was very active in the youth wrestling clubs in Madison County and was an inspiration, support, and role model for many of the young men whose lives he impacted through these wrestling programs. He was also active for many years in the Moose Lodge in Wood River, Ill.
The family would like to thank Jerry Robine for his steadfast support and friendship to Dad, and to us, we are very grateful.
