Mel Hester, 81, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born Feb. 8, 1932 in Wood River, he was a son of Les and Mourna (Wintjen) Hester.
Melvin retired from Laclede Steel. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He served his country during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Hester, a daughter Darla Boyer; grandson Ryan Boyer; sisters Nina Folsom and Donna Rives; his stepchildren, Dick Bold, Doug Bold, Dave Bold, JoAnn Dippold, Darla Knopf, Danny Bold, and Dallas Bold; and several step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 9 at Paynic Home for Funerals, from 10 a.m. until services begin at 12:00 p.m.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Mel will be greatly missed by family and friends. A special thanks to Bethalto Care Center for the kindness and dedicated service they provided.
