JERSEYVILLE- Marian Gross,  78, died at 7:50 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.She was born in Jerseyville on Jan. 25, 1937, and was one of two daughters born to the late Virgil Leo & Dorothy Helen (Crow) Davis.Marian graduated from Jersey Community High School, and as a young girl detasseled corn for numerous local farmers, and worked as an operator for the Jerseyville Telephone Company, as well as owning and operating, along with her husband, the A&W Root Beer Restaurant in Jerseyville.  For many years however, she was best known for her dedication to children, serving at West Elementary in Jerseyville, retiring in February 1999, as their head cook.A lifelong resident of Jerseyville, Marian was a devoted and very loving wife, mother and grandmother, who always and foremost placed her family first.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and was a talented and creative woman, who loved sewing, ceramics, decorating, painting, doll and basket making, and of course, dancing.  She frequently submitted her creations at the Jersey County Fair winning numerous ribbons throughout the years, culminating with her last submission this past summer, earning the the trophy for High Points in the Textiles & Fine Arts division.She married Donald Eugene Gross Sr., on Dec. 11, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and they were blessed with 60 years of marriage prior to his passing just nine days ago on Dec. 28, 2015.Surviving are her three children & a daughter in law, Sheila Gross, Donald "Buster" & Kathy Gross, and Ellen Frank all of Jerseyville; six grandchildren & their spouses, Jamie & Jay Jones, Avnie & Chris Pohlman all of Jerseyville, Spencer & Jessica Gross of Champaign, Sierra & Derek Maguire of Overland Park, Ks., Kayla Frank & Kristina Frank both of Jerseyville; nine great grandchildren; a sister in law, Lela Ferguson of Jerseyville; and a brother in law, Jimmy Vaughn of Jerseyville; along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister & brother in law, Betty & Maurice Tonsor; two sisters in law & and two brothers in law, Doris & Arden Chrisitansen , Claudia Vaughn, and Ronald Ferguson.Visitation will be from 10 a.m., Saturday until time of funeral services at 2 p.m., at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.  Her great nephew, Rev. Andrew Scott will officiate.She will be laid to rest alongside her husband and parents, at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to an educational fund for her great grandchildren in care of the funeral home.
