Margaret Herring

Margaret “Louise” Herring, 79, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Gravette, Arkansas. Born August 12, 1935 in Palmyra, IL, she was the daughter of Ray and Pearl (Pearson) Vance. On December 23, 1950 she married Harold R. Herring in Pocahontas, Arkansas and they shared 60 years together. They had five children together. Surviving are four children, Debra Young (Ed) of Springfield, IL, Dianne Peterson (Wayne) of Gravette, AR, Donna Scoggins (Denny) of Dorsey, IL, and Dave Herring (Janice) of Middlebrook, MO.

Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Lois Cook (Dan) of Carlinville, IL, Carol Ferree (Bernie) of Springfield, IL, and Joyce Adams of Columbia, KY. Mrs. Herring retired as a seamstress for Carol’s Bridal Shop after 30 years of service. She attended church at Faith Baptist Church in Godfrey and New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Middlebrook, MO.

Louise served many by making blankets and quilts to give to the children at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, an infant son, Ray Herring, and a brother, Lowell Vance.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Reverend Tom Olney will officiate. Burial will be at Hettick Cemetery in Hettick, IL.
