Marcella M. Clasby

Marcella M. Clasby, 90, passed away at 8:20 am Thursday August 29, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton with her family at her side.

She was born on March 19, 1923 in Alton the daughter of the late Leo & Florence (Lengacher) Schmidt.

Marcella married James “Jim” Clasby on August 14, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  He survives.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, an avid gardener and loved roses,  enjoyed traveling and reading.

Marcella formerly worked at Nolles Insurance Company and for Union Tank.

In addition the her husband of 69 years, she is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dan & Patricia Clasby of Effingham; five grandchildren and spouse, Dr. Daniel “Jamie” & Dr. Nicole Mares Clasby of Forty Fort,  Pennsylvania, Julie & Joseph Osborn of Godfrey, Ryan Clasby and his fiancée Cristina Fernandez of New Haven, CT, Christopher Paul Clasby and Caroline Elizabeth Clasby, both of Effingham; four great grandchildren, Ella Jane, Benjamin Daniel, Sophia Grace and Jackson Henry Osborn; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Schmidt of Godfrey.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Ralph, Gerald and Elden Schmidt. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday September 3, 2013 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday September 4, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to: St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Marquette Catholic High School.
