Maclean Watkins

Maclean Robert Watkins, 90, died at 4:07 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital.  Born July 9, 1925 in Alton, he was the son of Maclean Lawson and Sarah Edith (Miller) Watkins.  Mr. Watkins served in the Marines during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient.  He was a member of the VFW Post 1308 and Elm Street Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir.   He played minor league baseball with the Chicago Cubs for the Iona Cubs in Kansas.  He enjoyed reading, a glass of Scotch and was an avid Cardinal fan.  In 1982 he retired from Laclede Steel as a data processing manager after over 20 years of service.  On August 18, 1951 he married the former Doris June Harter in Alton.  She preceded him in death on December 27, 2013.  Surviving are two daughters, Karen Robnak (Dave) of Creve Coeur, MO and Janet L. Huber (Rick) of Godfrey, one son, Robert K. Watkins of Godfrey, four grandchildren, Michael and Steven Robnak and Ryan and Jennifer Huber, and two sisters, Patricia Blair and Martha Fry.  Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Patti Watkins and a sister, Dorothy Seago.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Pastor Bill Veith will officiate.  Memorials may be made to Elm Street Presbyterian Church.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.comtele
