Lotteo Sam Balaco, 84, died at 7:19 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.  He was born November 1, 1926 in Alton the son of the late Sam and Blanche (Steele) Balaco.  He owned and operated the Bon Air for 40 years and later owned and operated Lotteo’s Restaurant in Alton.  He was a member of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Surviving are one daughter; Rosemary Stahlschmidt and her husband Chris of Jerseyville, five sons; Sam Balaco (Charlene) of Alton, John Balaco (Renee) of Peoria, IL, David Balaco (Valerie) of Alton, Robert Balaco (Debbie) of Alton and Michael Balaco of Alton.  Ten grandchildren; Stacy Dixon (Corey), Katie Balaco, Jennifer Balaco, Kelly Reeder (Brandon), Amy, Jason and Marie Stahlschmidt, Michele McCoy (Ryan), Brandon and Lindsey Balaco, seven great grandchildren; Andrew, Emily, Matthew, Abbey, Avery, Piper and Link, three sisters; Christina Gennaro of Chicago, JoVenna Price of Godfrey and Amanda Borkowicz  of Chicago.  Visitation will be Monday, October 3, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  A mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Delix Michel to officiate.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.  Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.  Additional information and online guest book may be found at
