Leonard Johnson

Leonard L. Johnson, age 79, of Edwardsville, Illinois was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his home.

Leonard was employed by the Edwardsville School District #7 for about 30 years. He was born February 3, 1936, in rural Edwardsville the son of the late Louis & Ida (Bast) Johnson. Leonard married Sharon Jones on January 10, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Olive, Illinois and they shared 56 devoted years of marriage. Besides his wife, Sharon he is survived by 1 son, Kevin Johnson of Edwardsville; special extended family, Rodney & Linda Burbach, Austin, Spencer, and Nicole who affectionately called him “Papa.” He was loved and will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Keith Alan Johnson; 2 brothers, Carl & Delmar Johnson; and 3 sisters, Laverne Rea, Lorene Baker, and Loretta Cardwell. Leonard served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville.

Visitation will be from 9 am until 11 am Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Lawson officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Maryville.
