Leona D. Parks Bower, 98, passed away at 9:20 am Tuesday February 12, 2013 at Robings Manor, in Brighton, IL.
She was born in Wrights, IL on October 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Henry and Louella (Brannan) Thaxton.
In 1933 she married Wilber Parks, who preceded her in death in 2002.
She was employed at Thrifty Drugs as a clerk for over thirty years, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. She was a great artist who thoroughly enjoyed painting and family gatherings.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, James and Jackie Parks, of Brighton, and Ralph and Mary Parks of Bethalto; one daughter-in-law, Doris Parks of Alton; four grandchildren, and their spouses, Lori and Mike Kinder, Brian and Chelsea Parks, Casey and Kelly Parks, and Bradley and Aimee Parks; nine great grandchildren; and two nieces.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Allen Dean Parks; and a sister, Louise Hubbard.
In celebration of her life a visitation will be held on Thursday February 14, 2013 from 9 am until the time of service at 10:30 am, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Rev. Andre Dobson will be officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
