Kornethea L. Heitzman

Kornethea L. Heitzman, age 91, she passed away at 1:14 am on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 30, 1921 in Starline Works, KY, the daughter of Raymond and Lula (Higgins) Higgins.

She retired in 1980 from the Visual Handicap Managers of Illinois (VHMI) through the State of Illinois after working there for 20 years. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Madison County Blind Association since 1963 and was a member of the Madison County Blind Bowling Association. She enjoyed listing to books from the Illinois talking books Library and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Charles & Bernita Higgins of Livingston and Mark & Kay Cleveland of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Matthew Charles Higgins, Nicole Lynn Cleveland, Taylor Diane Cleveland, Donita Lynne Cunningham and Pamela Jeanetta Day; seven great grandchildren, Leigha Torres, Shae’ and Sierra Lutes, Hannah and Adisyn Cunningham, Rhileigh Day and Sage Schulte.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Maxine Giberson and Barbara Vaughn; one brother, Willard Higgins and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Higgins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL with Pastor Charles West officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to Blind Association, the Diabetes Association or the Cancer Society.
