Kirby Lacy

Kirby Grant Lacy, 47, died suddenly on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 9:20 a.m. at his home in Jerseyville.

He was born on February 25, 1969 in Jerseyville and was the son of Carl & Donna (Shaw) Lacy.

Kirby was a lifelong resident of Jerseyville, and attended Jersey Community High School where he was involved with the Tennis team, garnering the title of MVP his Freshman year, and graduated with the class of 1987.

He was employed as a Laborer with Local 218 for the past 16 years.

Kirby had a brilliant mind that he began putting to use at a very young age. He enjoyed reading, especially when it came to factual information, such as Encyclopedia’s which when he received his first set as a child, read cover to cover. As he grew older, he developed a passion for being outdoors, whether it be fishing at a local pond or mushroom hunting at Pere Marquette State Park.

Most especially, Kirby will be remembered as a prankster with a good heart and an undeniable love for his family and friends and will be dearly missed and loved by all.

Surviving are his father, Carl Lacy of Athens, IL; his mother and step-father, Donna & Phil Holcomb of Jerseyville; a son, Brice Lacy and his fiancé, Elizabeth Rantz of Reeds Spring, MO; a daughter, Breanna Shanks of Carrollton; a granddaughter, Sophie; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald & Anissa Lacy of Jerseyville; a niece, Alyssa Jones of Alton; his grandmother, Clara Lacy of Phoenix, AZ; two very special “aunts”, Connie Dierking and Linda Ray, both of Jerseyville;  his fiancé, whom provided Kirby much love and happiness, Tammy Purcell of Jerseyville; as well as numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Eugene Lacy; his maternal grandparents, George & Claudia Jones; and great aunts, Alberta Young and Zada Cummings.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorials be given to Hope Animal Rescues in Jersey County, in care of the funeral home.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
