Katherine Marie Zumbaum, 82, passed from this earth at 9:39 pm Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Eden Village with her family by her side.
She was born on November 12, 1930 in Ridgeway, IL, the daughter of Benjamin and Wilma (Glover) DeVous.
She married Robert M. Zumbaum on November 10, 1948 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2012.
Katherine was a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Wood River Township Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto, where she served on the bereavement committee and in the church choir. She enjoyed quilting, bowling and reading. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
She is survived by her children and their spouses; Robert Zumbaum and his partner, Debra of Rosewood Heights, David and Cathy Zumbaum of Bethalto, Michelle and Dean Ruppert of Bethalto, Karen and Cecil Turner of Lagrange, KY and Kevin and Tina Zumbaum of Godfrey; a sister, Louise Owens of Gary, IN; a brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Doris DeVous of Eldorado, IL. She was also blessed with fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Luke DeVous and a sister, Matilda Meiers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, April 15, 2013 at Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler officiating.
Private family burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church Bereavement Committee or School Library.
