Karen Lucille Veith departed this life on April 18, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Born March 23, 1948 in Hammond, IN, she was the daughter of Harry and Verona Palmateer. Karen was a retired teacher who for thirty-three years taught English and Literature and served as Head of the English Department at Owen Valley High School in Spencer, IN. Karen was married for forty-four years to (Rev.) William Veith. She and he have two sons, Nathan Daniel Veith and Jonathan Matthew Veith. Karen and Rev. Veith arrived in Alton in 2006. She was a tour guide at the Melvin Price Lock and Dam. Since 2010 Karen has been a dynamic Zumba Gold dance instructor. She led classes at Senior Services Plus in Alton, Leisure World in Bethalto, and the Wellness Center in Jerseyville. Karen was an active fan of singer-performer Bob Dylan. She was a conversation moderator on the Dylan web-site Never Ending Pool; her moderator name was “Laughs Like the Flowers.” While in Alton, Karen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA) and Elm Street Presbyterian Church. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Elm Street Presbyterian Church, 101 West Elm Street, Alton. She will be interred at St. Thomas Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Bloomington, IN. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
